Mapping New York City POIs

This map compares two distinct datasets of Points of Interest (POIs) in New York City: OpenStreetMap (crowd-sourced) and CommonPlace (government-curated). While OpenStreetMap reflects informal, user-defined spaces, CommonPlace presents an official, institutional perspective on what is publicly significant. By mapping and contrasting the two, this project raises questions about who has the authority to define place, what is considered “official,” and whose spaces are rendered visible in our digital geographies.
